Over the years I’ve tried a million different ways of doing this but I honestly find that the easiest ways are usually the best. Let the ingredients do the talking!
I don’t part cook the fruit, because otherwise you need to part cook your crumble and quite frankly, what is the point? Chop your apple up small, quarters, then into eighths, and add blackberries whole.
Make the crumble top first, that way you can stick it straight on before the apples have time to brown.
If you want to make a larger one just remember however much flour you use, you need half that in butter and sugar. Simples.
Ingredients:
Four cooking apples, peeled and chopped
Two handfuls of freshly picked blackberries, well washed
Tablespoon of golden syrup
Teaspoon of cinnamon
120g plain flour
60g sugar
60g cold butter
Pop your flour, sugar and butter in a food processor and blend for 30 seconds until a light breadcrumb texture.
Chop apples into small pieces and put into a deep oven proof dish. Drizzle over the golden syrup and cinnamon. You could use mixed spice instead.
Cover with the crumble mix evenly and pat down.
Bake for 25-30 minutes until crumble is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling underneath.
Serve with cream, ice cream or custard!!!
