Farmhouse loaf (bread machine)

Yes yes, I have a breadmaker. There is literally so very much going on in my little world that I simply do not have the time to stand and knead for 45 minutes. I can but I choose not to. Much like puff pastry.

I know this is something many people have and keep at the back of the least frequently opened cupboard in the kitchen, and yes it might only cost a pound to buy a loaf from the supermarket but honestly please please have a go at this, it’s so quick and speedy and you know what every single ingredient is, no additives, no preservatives, no nothing. To be honest no preservatives are needed as it won’t last long enough!

I have experimented with settings here and this works just as well on the rapid bake two hour setting as it does on the full four hour one.

I keep all the ingredients together in a cupboard so it is literally a two minute job to throw everything in. Takes far less time than getting in the car driving to the shop to buy bread on a Sunday morning!

Always put the water in first and the flour in last. I’ve added the ingredients below in the order I pop them into the tin.

Ingredients:

225ml warm water

1tsp salt

1tsp quick yeast

2tbsp sugar

2tbsp veg oil

2tbsp olive oil

300g strong white flour

100g strong wholemeal flour

Press bake, then wait for your house to be truly engulfed with the smell of fresh baked bread. It’s fabulous fresh but a little difficult to cut, it actually slices really well the next day for sandwiches.
